Von focuses on complex commercial litigation and sports law. Von counts The Home Depot, Chateau Elan Realty, Justin’s Restaurant, SecureArc, Inc. and Solomon Partners Real Estate among his commercial litigation clients. Von has successfully defended and prosecuted claims on behalf of his corporate clients in matters ranging from business torts to claims of discrimination and harassment.
Von has recently brought the firm’s significant experience representing high level business executives and physicians in contract negotiations to the area of athlete representation. He is a certified Contract Advisor with the National Football League Players Association. With the ability to advise athletes in their professional contract negotiations as any traditional sports agent, Von is also uniquely positioned to advise athletes in legal affairs off the field during and after their careers. Indeed, Von counts Super Bowl Champion and former New York Giant Myron Guyton among his clients, advising him on numerous business affairs, including negotiating substantial deals with GHL Enterprises, Burger King Corporation and GE Capital. Von’s sports-related clients also include Panoz Auto Development Company, manufacturer of the Esperante GTLM which won the 2006 24 Hours of LeMans and JRD Tuning, official tuner of the Panoz Auto Development Company.
Von has undertaken significant pro bono matters, including extensive work with the NAACP on public accommodations and discriminatory housing matters. Von co-authored an amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court on behalf of the NAACP, SCLC, AARP, and other groups filed in support of the petitioners in Kelo v. City of New London, 125 S.Ct. 2655 (2005), contending that the use of eminent domain for economic development purposes particularly disadvantages minorities, the poor and the elderly. Arguments made in the amicus brief were mentioned by Justice Thomas in his dissenting opinion.
Prior to joining the firm, Von served as law clerk to the Honorable Solomon Oliver, Jr., United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, from 1998-2000. Von graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1998, where he was a member of the Ault Mock Trial Team and the Craven Moot Court Team.
