RECRUITING & EMPLOYMENT

Overview

Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore, LLP offers its associates the opportunity to perform meaningful work on a variety of high profile litigation matters. Our cases are typically handled by two of the firm's lawyers, although particularly involved matters may require additional staffing. We believe that this eliminates duplication of effort and affords the highest level of representation to our clients.

This approach to case management in turn requires our associates to assume substantial responsibility at an earlier stage of their careers than in many other firms handling comparable matters.

Thus, starting in their first year, our associates prepare pleadings, not simply internal memoranda, and are expected to take depositions and argue small motions or appeals. Starting in their second and third years, our associates generally handle larger motions and appeals, fulfill substantial roles at trial, and assume an increasing share of case management responsibilities as their skills develop.

Associate Training & Development

Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore, LLP hires a limited number of associate attorneys, with the hope and expectation that each associate will ultimately demonstrate the skills, character and dedication to join the firm as a partner. Consistent with this view, we devote substantial time and resources to the professional development of our associates. BME regularly conducts internal meetings devoted to associate training. We also require that our associates attend, at the firm's expense, a number of outside seminars that we have found to provide high-quality training for litigation, including an intensive, two-week trial techniques program sponsored in Boulder, Colorado by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. In addition, the firm requires and funds our associates' attendance at other seminars that will advance their professional development. These include seminars on substantive areas of the law and specific legal skills, as well as more general skills such as negotiation and public speaking.

Salary & Benefits

Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore, LLP offers a salary and benefits package that is commensurate with those offered by the largest firms in the Atlanta area.  Our associates have the opportunity to earn annual bonuses based upon their individual performance and the economic performance of the firm. We regularly evaluate associate compensation in our legal market and adjust our compensation package as appropriate.

Summer Associate Program

Each year, the firm invites two to three students from law schools throughout the country to participate in its summer program. In the past few years, our program has included students from Harvard, Virginia, Emory, Duke, University of Georgia, Columbia and Yale. We interview on campus at a number of schools and solicit resumes from law schools and law clerks across the nation.

We view our summer associates as an important resource in serving our clients and expect them to do substantive work similar to that which would otherwise be performed by one of our associate attorneys. Whenever possible, we involve our summer associates in projects that involve client contact, depositions, hearings or trials, so that they can gain as realistic an impression of our practice as possible.

Our summer program is designed to expose students not only to our practice, but also to the city of Atlanta. To that end, we invite our summer associates to participate in a variety of activities in the city, including dining at some of Atlanta's fine restaurants, concerts at Chastain Park, plays at Oglethorpe University's Shakespeare Theater, Braves baseball games and a white water rafting trip. If you are not familiar with Atlanta, some of the city's many attractive features and opportunities are highlighted at http://www.insiders.com/atlanta/ .
